Ontario’s Biodiversity Strategy 2011 Released

The Ontario Biodiversity Council released Ontario's Biodiversity Strategy 2011 on June 22, 2011.  The Strategy builds on the positive achievements of Ontario's 2005 Strategy and provides a renewed commitment to safeguard Ontario's biodiversity.  It also establishes an ambitious but practical conservation agenda that all Ontarians and all sectors can see themselves in.

SNO's Role in Biodiversity Stewardship

The Stewardship Network of Ontario fulfills the role of the "stewardship working group" that is identified in Ontario's Biodiversity Strategy (see Action 3 in the OBS). Basic information about what SNO is doing relative to that role is presented on these web pages, but much greater detail is provided on SNO's primary website at www.stewardshipcentre.on.ca. There will be numerous places on these pages where there are links to the main SNO website.

SNO Resources

You will find that this website provides an entry point to learn about the implementation of the stewardship aspects of Ontario's Biodiversity Strategy. There are links to examples and further information. Once you have explored what is here, you will likely want to visit the Stewardship Network of Ontario's internet portal, which is part of the national Stewardship Canada portal. The tools that have been built and others that are in development will assist you in finding the information that you want.

Stewardship Accomplishments

In May 2010 Ontario’s Biodiversity Council released The State of Ontario’s Biodiversity 2010 report.  SNO, as a Working Group of Ontario’s Biodiversity Council, contributed key information to assist with identifying important stewardship indicators.   The report meets a key commitment in Ontario’s Biodiversity Strategy and also represents Ontario’s contribution to the International Year of Biodiversity.
